The North Gate, Known as the Little Gate
They call it the Little Gate for what passes through it: those who come down from the mountains, charcoal burners, shepherds and peddlers, whom the city has never cared much about. The scaffolding clinging to one of the towers has been there so long that its wood has gone gray. The portcullis only rises halfway now, and you have to duck to pass under its spikes. The men-at-arms posted there take it as a punishment, and it often is one: their sergeant lets in just about anyone, as long as no one makes him leave his stool.A large medieval castle gatehouse scene featuring two flanking stone towers, a central arched portcullis gate, a cobblestone approach road, and a heraldic blue shield emblem mounted above the entrance.
