After the zombie, which keeps nothing, the skeleton is the second of the dead one learns to raise, and it calls for a surer hand. No memory, no soul, no will to break: it obeys simple orders and those alone, guard, go, kill. Do not ask it to follow a trail, to choose a target, to judge a situation. But where the zombie is only walking flesh, the bones keep something: the gesture. That is what makes it valuable, and hard to master, for what it can do depends on the bones it is given. It is sometimes assembled from mismatched bones drawn from several dead, and the thing walks crooked, hobbles, and stands all the same.
The memory of bones. This is where necromancy turns curious. A single small bone from an archer, slipped into any assembly at all, and the skeleton will know how to shoot. The gesture outlives the man. Nothing of the archer remains, no name, no face, not the faintest thought, but his hands still know.
It fights according to the quality of its bones and the skill of its master. Be wary of plate and shield: sometimes it is a bluff, a heap of bones harnessed to impress. But if it wields its weapon with precision, covers behind its shield, and moves with a soldier's gait, make no mistake: you stand before an adversary far more dangerous than you believe. The bone remembers the wars it fought.
A skeleton warrior token or character asset depicting an undead humanoid combatant clad in chainmail armor and a helmet, wielding a sword and a rusted shield, with multiple arrows lodged in its ribcage and torso. The figure stands in a darkened stone corridor or dungeon archway, with a torch visible in the background. This asset is suited for undead encounters in fantasy tabletop RPGs such as Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, and similar systems, functioning as a soldier-class enemy or minion under a necromancer's command. Compatible with virtual tabletop platforms including Roll20, Foundry VTT, and Fantasy Grounds.
