The Cave Bear, the Passing Mountain

"You do not hunt it. You survive having crossed its path, or you tell no tale at all."It does not hunt you. It forages, it digs, it grazes, and rules by sheer mass without ever defending a territory. The danger is not appetite, it is nearness: its den, its path, the blind angle between it and where it is going. Across its back, a cuirass of horned plates thickens with every winter, and the thicker it grows, the more it is coveted.
Appearance
You spot it. On the opposite slope, a boulder stirs. It turns the earth over with great sweeps of its paws, indifferent, and the plates on its back catch the light like wet roof tiles. Then it rears. Three meters, a ton of bone and muscle. It does not charge. It weighs you, tiny, standing there between it and its den. This is the moment the mountain decides whether to close.By surprise. No roar. A tremor in the ground, pebbles rolling for no reason, then a heavy, animal smell saturating the pass. You put a hand on the rock wall to steady yourself. It is warm. It moves. By the time you understand it is a flank, the mountain has already turned toward you.
Combat
How it fights. A launched mass cannot be turned aside. It does not feint, it does not trick: it advances, and whatever stands before it gives way. Blades slide off the cuirass of back and flanks, and to strike head-on is to strike the wall. An old male has survived everything that bites. You are only the latest to try.

How to fight it. The cuirass does not cover everything: belly, maw, and eyes stay bare. But the best fight is none at all. Step out of its path, let it reach its den, and it will have forgotten you before it has finished passing. What you do not contest, it does not defend.

A cave bear token or character asset depicting a massive, scarred bear emerging from a dark rocky cave entrance, with red eyes, an open snarling maw, and snow-dusted fur suggesting a cold mountain or arctic environment. The creature features visible thick, plated hide along its back, consistent with a hardened elder specimen suitable for use as a high-challenge wildlife or boss encounter. Compatible with fantasy RPG systems such as D&D 5e, Pathfinder, and Old-School Essentials, this token fits wilderness, mountain pass, cave, and dungeon encounter scenarios. Ready for use on virtual tabletops including Roll20, Foundry VTT, and Fantasy Grounds.
