Alliance Rings
"In the vault of pledge-stones, allies are counted by their light."What it is
A goldsmith's ring bound to a carved metal pledge-stone by a mage the guild pays dearly: only a mage more powerful than he could falsify a pledge-stone, so the worth of an alliance rests on the name of the one who sealed it. Guilds keep their pledge-stones in the strongroom of a bank, one per contract. Each guild has its own ring design, its stone, its engravings, and an eye trained in trade can tell from a merchant's hand whom he is allied with.
What it does
The contract is sealed aloud, hand on the pledge-stone: "Ex fide, I pledge to…". It binds an alliance, never clauses. While it holds, the pledge-stone glows a vivid blue. When the alliance ends by its own terms, the glow turns orange. If the wearer takes the ring off, the contract is void and the pledge-stone goes dark.
What it costs
The magic reads the wearer's resolve. The moment he resolves to betray, before any act, a red flash shatters the pledge-stone and brands his palm. Temptation triggers nothing. Removing the ring with the intent to betray afterward is already a decision to betray. The brand never fades, and no guild deals with a hand that bears it.
A magic ring token featuring a gold filigree band set with a large blue sapphire gemstone, hovering above an ornate stone pedestal crackling with blue lightning arcs. The ring emits faint magical energy, consistent with a lie-detection or divination artifact for use in social intrigue, investigation, or interrogation encounters. This asset suits urban fantasy, political mystery, and courtly RPG scenarios in systems such as D&D 5e, Pathfinder, or OSR games, and is compatible with virtual tabletop platforms including Foundry VTT, Roll20, and Fantasy Grounds as an item handout or prop token.
