Of the two twins who wait tables at Babe's Fighting Circle, Meradone is the one who keeps the peace. She has never raised a hand against anyone; her innocence is enough. You only have to watch her cross the room to understand that she has no idea what really goes on in the place, and that she's perfectly happy that way. In front of her, the brutes lower their voices and the bettors put their knives away. Somewhere in the room, Menathra, her twin, who looks nothing like her, never takes her eyes off her. The question is which of the two sisters is really protecting the other.

Describe her

Everything about her breathes gentleness, down to the way she sets a mug in front of you, the way you'd serve a child who came home too late. The Circle's rough crowd calls her by her first name and talks to her as they would to their mother. More than one man has been seen weeping while confiding in Meradone, and she must know more shameful secrets than the rest of the quarter put together.

Play her

Make her gentle, courteous, glad to be there: she does her job for the pleasure of it, and it shows. If someone scorns or insults her, have her laugh heartily; she always thinks it's a joke. She has no confidence in herself at all, and lives entirely for these people, her "brutes who aren't so bad deep down." And keep, underneath, the question she unknowingly puts to the whole table: if someone shatters that innocence in front of her, what will Menathra do?

"Oh, he's a joker, that one! Shall I pour you the same again?"
