Octave Brenwald gets paid by the job, and the job never matters. A mercenary until a leg wound took him off the battlefield, he turned to the dirty work: guarding, ransoming, burglary, debt collecting. The local militias know him by his first name, and he has already done two stretches behind bars for violence. He came out with neither shame nor lesson learned. Octave respects only brute force, the kind you see coming and can pay back. The other kind, the mages' kind, terrifies him.
Describe him
He fills a room with his bulk far more than with his appearance: a stained shirt, poorly greased leather, the smell of last night's wine. He drags his leg a little, and his eyes dare you to notice. His smile never moves, frozen like a mask, and every time your eyes meet his, he sends back a small mocking smirk, as if he already knew exactly what you're worth.Play him
Make him charge for what's free: a chair, a way through, a piece of information, or someone else's tab he claims to be collecting. Talk down, slowly, as if to people who are slow on the uptake. Let it show that he's waiting for just one thing: for someone to pay him a contract on one of them, so he finally has the right to teach them a lesson. But if a mage stands before him, change everything: his eyes slide away, his voice falters, his feet look for the door. And keep, underneath, that a man who respects only strength is always at the mercy of the kind he doesn't understand.What he says (rarely)
