Sir Silvery Aldwright, the Stable Master's Daughter
Her mother died bringing her into the world, her father under the hooves of a horse he had broken himself. The stable master's daughter should have ended up a stable hand. She stood her ground with such stubbornness that Sir Aldwright took her under his roof, then under his colors, and she became the family's first blade. She serves that name without a single flaw. But the dream that keeps her standing is another banner, her own, raised by men-at-arms who will have chosen her, and the right to wage war in her own name.
Describe her
Her face leaves little room for a smile, and one glance tells you life has given her nothing. She still smells of leather and the stable, whatever she does. Her mail has been mended more than once, and you can hear it when she moves. She speaks little, plainly, softening nothing. She looks for only one thing in you: whether you will hold.
Play her
Have her say exactly what she thinks, no detours, and let the players pay the social price. She values only one thing in people, courage, and she lets it be known, to the baron and the valet alike. When things turn tense, have her tie back her hair without a word; the players will quickly learn what that gesture means. Then she takes charge, hands out roles in a calm voice, and everyone ends up exactly where they are most useful. Never forget what she counts in silence: every man she leads well might one day march under her banner.
What she says (rarely)
"You're afraid? Good. Now stay anyway."
"I'm not asking you to like me. I'm asking you to hold your place."
(tying back her hair, eyes never leaving the enemy) "You, on the left. You, behind me. No one falls back without my order."
