Beneath high vaults carved straight from the rock, a long dark runner crosses the floor engraved with geometric patterns up to the steps of a dais, where the throne stands between two columns of braziers. Stone ancestors, seated or planted in armour behind their shields, keep watch on either side, while tiered benches rise along the walls, as though every word spoken here must be uttered beneath the gaze of an entire people.
