The Sentinels, Ancient Wardens of the Balance
We call it a sentinel for convenience. A sentinel stands guard; this one decides. The elves gave it no orders. They entrusted it with a principle, and the knowledge to apply it. Where a golem obeys, it interprets and it judges. Its bound spirit weighs each case by that single law, and nothing it decides is owed to favor or to anger.
When It Rises
You had taken it for a statue, a block the moss had swallowed and the forest had forgotten. Then the statue breathes. Moss splits along joints you never saw, something green wakes deep in the stone, and the mass unfolds, without haste, far taller than you would have believed. Its eyes settle on each of you, one after another, and you know, low in your gut, that something is weighing you. What You Need to Know
How it fights. It carries immense strength in a body that knows neither pain nor bleeding: nothing done to it turns it aside. Some are charged besides with magic, with powers cut to fit their mission. It does not truly fight, it corrects, cutting away what the balance condemns with the economy of a single just gesture.
How to fight it. It offers no weak point, neither to blade nor to spell. But it hunts only imbalance: learn what it watches over, show it that respect, and it will not see you. You do not defeat it, you cease to be what it came to cut away.
The Forest Sentinel
To watch over living things is written into every one of them. Some guard a sanctuary; others cultivate the essences of the wood, carry pollen, tend the paths by guiding the course of roots and branches. Almost always alone, a sentinel watches over a single hectare, rarely more. Legend credits them with speaking to the trees, which would inform them in return. No one has proven it, and the sentinel itself does not talk.
The Forest Sentinel is a large humanoid construct token set in a dense, misty forest environment, composed of wood, stone, and moss with multiple glowing green gemstone eyes and organic armor plating. It stands upright in an aggressive posture among tree roots and forest debris, with curved horn-like protrusions and vine-wrapped limbs. This token is suited for nature guardian encounters, ancient warden boss fights, or druidic sanctuary defense scenarios in fantasy tabletop RPGs such as D&D 5e, Pathfinder, or similar systems. Compatible with virtual tabletop platforms including Roll20, Foundry VTT, and Owlbear Rodeo.
