The Grey Tide
when bread within the bin tastes cold as bone,
the old ones bless themselves and turn the key,
for they have heard the murmur in the stone.This is not death, but death's approaching sound,
a tide that gathers, ebbs, and gathers more,
a rumor in the dark beneath the ground,
the grey low water creeping to the door.They burned the fields, they barred the bolted gate;
the sea climbs back and bears the drowned and dead,
and those who reckon grey have reckoned late,
for at its heel come fever, hunger, dread.For once the tide is seen, the shore is lost,
and grain you weep for now, tomorrow's cost.
A rat swarm token or encounter illustration depicting a large group of aggressive rats surging forward in a dark, stone-walled dungeon chamber, with a barred window, a wall-mounted torch, and a human skull visible in the foreground. The scene is suited for dungeon-crawl encounters involving vermin swarms, disease mechanics, or horror-themed scenarios. Compatible with fantasy RPG systems such as D&D 5e, Pathfinder, and OSR games, and usable as a token, scene illustration, or encounter card on virtual tabletops including Roll20, Foundry VTT, and Fantasy Grounds.
