Look for the web and you will die. The only thing she weaves is the ground.She spins no web. That is the first thing to understand, and the thing that kills the most travelers. Her abdomen can chill until the surface beneath her takes on a sheet of ice, and there lies her whole craft: she builds her own ground, a glaze of ice under a skin of snow, and then she waits below it.Appearance
You catch sight of her. The freezing wind is burning your cheeks when you hear it, somewhere above you, a dry clicking, almost metallic. You squint against the glare of sun on snow. A shape is coming down the cliff toward you, out in the open, with no thread to hold it.The ambush. Your foot slides out from under you on a plate of ice hidden beneath the snow. Your companions stop laughing. The crust breaks apart near your face, and two fangs are already waiting for the hand you are pushing off with to get back up.Combat
How she fights. She comes out, she bites, she withdraws. Her venom dries a man out and empties him, and it does the rest without her. The chitin of her legs bites into ice like climbing irons, so she moves with certainty where you slip. All she has to do is follow.How to fight her. The venom brings on thirst, and all around you there is nothing but water you cannot drink: swallowing snow finishes off a man who is already cold. Best of all is never to meet her, by taking the high passes at the start of summer, when she has gone down to lay. Otherwise you need a lookout who knows what he is looking for, or you take her while she is freezing her plate, the only moment she is busy elsewhere.
