The Dwarven Cryptex
"It keeps a secret, and punishes whoever forces dwarven runes without knowing how to read them."What it is
A cylinder of runic rings that asks for no key, only a dwarven word aligned true. The rune-master who shaped it charged certain letters with a power sealed in the metal, and it sleeps there until a false word comes to wake it.What it does
Aligned without fault on the true word, it opens. Any other combination does nothing, except the ones the master trapped. The power bound in matter is then suddenly traced in the air, and the dwarven rule of runes turns against the intruder. Fire, stone, or breath: what comes loose depends on what the master bound into it.What it costs
Every attempt without the word is a wager against the charged letters, and you risk your life for contents you know nothing about. You need the word, or a dwarf able to guess the one a master would have chosen.A cylindrical dwarven cryptex token or prop asset covered in runic engravings and decorative metalwork, set on a wooden shelf alongside rune-inscribed tomes and a small armored figurine. This asset functions as an interactive puzzle object or handout prop for tabletop RPG sessions involving dwarven lore, ancient mechanisms, or trap encounters. It is suited for dungeon crawl, heist, and investigation scenarios in fantasy RPG systems such as D&D 5e, Pathfinder, or OSR games, and can serve as a visual aid on virtual tabletop platforms including Foundry VTT, Roll20, and Fantasy Grounds.
