The Astrydill grows only where fire has passed. Once its fruits split open, its seeds drift away on the wind and sleep in the earth, sometimes for years, until a blaze awakens them. Then the shrub bursts from the ashes and grows at astonishing speed, flowers only once, bears its fruit, and withers where it stands. Its whole life fits within a single season. No one has ever managed to reproduce this cycle: in a garden, under glass, even after a fire lit on purpose, the seed almost always refuses to sprout, and no one knows why. Every wild Astrydill therefore becomes a matter of contention. When word spreads that a shrub has sprung up after a fire, alchemists, mages, and merchants all converge on it at once, and it is not unusual for blood to be spilled at its roots before it has even flowered.
The Astrydill is a solitary, gnarled tree with glowing golden fruits, rooted on a rocky outcrop amid a burned hillside covered with charred, leafless trunks and ash-grey terrain under an overcast sky. This prop or encounter asset suits wilderness survival scenarios, post-disaster environments, or resource-conflict encounters in fantasy tabletop RPGs such as D&D 5e, Pathfinder, or similar systems. It can serve as a point-of-interest token, a lore object, or the focal point of a competitive multi-faction encounter on virtual tabletops like Foundry VTT, Roll20, or Owlbear Rodeo. The distinctive glowing fruits and scorched surroundings make it immediately identifiable as a rare, contested alchemical resource node within a burned forest or volcanic badlands encounter zone.
