Dumzahar, the Traitor
"One only curses what has already died within."What it is
Born from the twin axe of what would become Yarnhal, melted down by its first bearer, Tarakul Dyr Goldar, long before the first Ravager. The one forbidden piece of the regalia, it carries the bulk of the curse by itself. Nothing can break it, not blade, not fire, not time.
What it does
Dumzahar shields its bearer from nearly anything. And as long as his hand holds it, death cannot take him, whatever his wounds.
What it costs
It heals nothing, all the same. Wounds stay open, pain remains, the body wears away around a life that will no longer go out. Letting go of the shield means dying all at once of everything one has gathered. The longer it is carried, the more impossible it becomes to set down.
Archives of Gloed-härt, recovered fragment, hand of Liorn Vekhel, keeper
Tarakul Dyr Goldar was destined to become a guide of the Ember-Son, and carried the twin axe of what would become Yarnhal. But even at the height of his power, he still feared death. To keep himself from it, he melted one of the two axes with his own hands and made of it a shield no steel would ever pierce. The Ember-Son does not suffer a weapon to be melted into a hiding place. He granted Tarakul more than he had prayed for: as long as he held the shield, he would not die. Nor would he heal. Those who saw him last speak of a body with nothing living left in it, and of a hand that no longer opened.
So recorded, that no disciple forget that fire gives what is asked of it, and nothing more.
— Liorn Vekhel, keeper of Gloed-härt
