Longsword — token

Longsword

“One hand is enough. The second is for finishing.”The longsword is the weapon of the knight and the man-at-arms. Its straight, double-edged steel blade is long enough to keep an opponent at bay, and its grip leaves room for a second hand. It is most often wielded one-handed, shield on the arm, on horseback and on foot alike. When a harder blow is needed, it is sometimes taken in both hands, just long enough for a strike that can split a shield. Against plate armor, a canny swordsman grips his own blade halfway down and uses it like a short spear to seek the gaps in the harness. A good longsword is expensive. It is handed down and remounted on a new hilt, and it is not unusual for a single blade to serve three generations.
