“It doesn’t reach far, but it shoots before anything else.”The shortbow is the weapon of the hunter, the scout, and the poacher. Carved from a single piece of wood, it is light and is carried slung across the back. It handles as well on horseback as in undergrowth too tight for a great bow. It reaches less far and hits less hard than the longbow, and an arrow loosed from a distance glances off plate armor. On the other hand, it is quick to learn and quick to shoot: a practiced archer looses three arrows in the time a crossbowman reloads one bolt.
