Tamareth Kheled, who climbed for a falcon and came back down with something else.
He speaks slowly, listens better than he talks, a raven named Ono on his shoulder. Among dwarves there is no trade of falconry; he is inventing it alone, writing precepts no one asked him for. He went up young to ask the Elder for a falcon, and he stayed as long as it took. What came was not a falcon. He never says how many years he left up there, or whether he writes for the dwarves to come or for himself.
Describe him
He does not get up, but he lets you come all the way to him without hurrying you. His voice is low and slow, like a man who has spent years speaking to only one person. He smells of wet wool and high cold. When you talk, he glances upward a second too long, as if someone up there had something to add. The raven makes a sound that is not a call. He answers it.Play him
Speak slowly. Listen more than you talk. Look up often. When someone asks where you have been, tell the journey through Ono's eyes: what he saw from the pass, who was camped in the hollow, what he stole on the way. The table will understand that you did not need to go yourself. And hold on to this underneath: you write precepts for dwarves not yet born, and you are not sure they will read you.
What he says
"Sit down. Ono watched you coming a while ago.""You do not train a raven. You make yourself available, that is all."(turning a page he has not reread in years) "I asked for a falcon. I got a better answer, I think."
