Vornia “Fuse”
Vornia was born a dwarf and grew up on the docks of a human port, among the barrels and the taverns, with no clan or lineage to defend. All that remains of her life before is a single image: her mother, eaten away by the great pox, making her promise never to set foot in a dwarven city again. As a grown woman, she came to understand that her mother had died alone and nameless, without a single holy order coming to heal her or pray for her. She doesn’t even know where they buried her. Ever since, every society has looked rotten to the bone to her, and those who follow its laws are prey. In every port, she spits on the steps of the first temple she passes.Describe her
She sizes you up before you’ve opened your mouth, the way you’d weigh a purse. Her voice is hoarse, scraped raw by salt, and she speaks dockside cant with a trace of dwarven accent that she alone can’t hear. She smells of tar, warm rum and gunpowder. On land, she walks with her legs apart, as if the ground were about to start rolling. When someone talks about law or duty, one corner of her mouth lifts. Her hands never stray far from her belt.Play her
Talk loud, cut people off, laugh at the players’ scruples. Always offer them a deal, and slip in a clause in her favor to see if they read it. If they catch it, she thinks a little more of them. If a dwarf introduces themselves with their clan and lineage, answer in port slang, then let a single dwarven word slip out, perfectly pronounced. Her contempt is aimed at temples, guilds and magistrates, not at the people they abandon. Faced with a beggar, a sick man or a street kid, she pays without a word and walks on.What she says (rarely)
“A law is just a rope you tied yourselves.”“My city? A dock, a tide, and nobody waiting for me.”
“She made me promise never to go back. I keep my promises.” (without a smile)
Vornia 'Fuse' is a dwarf female character token depicted in battered leather and metal armor, wearing a tricorn hat, with long blonde braids and a weathered, scarred face, holding a hammer at her side. She stands against a carved stone doorframe, conveying the appearance of a hardened dockworker or mercenary.
