The Bearer, Master of the Cindergnaw
For a few years now, a tribe of Cindergnaw (kobolds who live beneath the volcanoes) has obeyed a dwarf whose name no one knows. Those who have glimpsed him from afar all describe the same armor. The Göldunn (the dwarves of the volcanic mountains, who harvest the ore it was forged from) recognize it: the complete Deepvein Set, five cursed pieces. He has worn it too long. The armor stokes his appetites until they never subside, and the shield keeps him alive without healing him, as long as he never lets go of it. He has come to fear anything that might tear it from him.
Describe him
The kobolds scatter before you see him, and the air turns scorching. He advances behind his shield, always, even to speak. Inside the armor his breath comes short and whistling: it is the breath of a body covered in wounds that the fire has closed without ever healing. A smell of hot metal and seared flesh follows him. He strikes the nearest kobold for no apparent reason, then looks at you to see whether you are afraid.Play him
Make him cruel to those who cannot answer back and cautious with everyone else. He talks loud, threatens a great deal, and always sends his kobolds in first. He only commits when he is sure to win, and he backs off the moment a blow surprises him. His breaking point is the shield. Let a character try to tear it away or strike at his hand, and he tips into furious panic: he is ready to sacrifice anything to keep it, his kobolds included.
