Garrick the Barehand

Garrick fights to live, never for glory, and he moves from town to town across the kingdom wherever bouts are held. Two orphans follow him everywhere, taken under his wing and raised between one purse and the next. It's for them that he refuses the underworld, and with it the best-paying fights: the money is good, but the debts you take on there are paid by the people you love. He makes do. The blows are starting to weigh on him, and he already knows those two children will be his legs when his own give out.

Describe him

A marked man, by fists as much as by life: a nose broken several times, hands as broad as paddles, the linen wraps he winds himself before every fight. His burning gaze never leaves his opponent. Then the fight ends, and you see a father crouch down in front of two kids to explain what he just did, and why. He has an ethic and a philosophy of fighting, and he means to pass them on, because the world is hard and you need keys to survive in it.

Play him

Play him steady: he knows where he's going, what a risk is worth and what responsibility costs. He has street patter and defuses the militia with a disarming politeness, without ever bowing his head. Faced with a player looking for a brawl, have him refuse first, calmly, once, twice. And keep, underneath, the one limit that turns him into another man: touch his children, and he will go all the way to death, his own or the other man's.
