Ordo Aurorae High Warden Lothar

Lothar, the Law Before Which Kings Withdraw

Lothar is the High Warden of the Ordo Aurorae, the armed hand of the Order and commander of its paladins. He rides Aldris and bears Lumendor and Mandëor. To him, raising the dead is a crime against the living, and he treats it as a judge would: he investigates, he pronounces, then he executes. The light he serves reveals, separates, and condemns. No king lets a man-at-arms forbid him a piece of his own realm. Where corruption takes root, Lothar draws a boundary, and the crown stays outside it.

Describe him

He stays still longer than anyone else in the room, and every gaze drifts back to him. The sun painted on his shield makes you want to step aside, as if its light might show what you are hiding. He speaks low, unhurried, in complete sentences no one interrupts. His gestures are rare and seem decided in advance. When someone speaks the word necromancy in front of him, his voice drops further, and everyone understands the debate is over.

Play him

Play authority without haste. Keep him upright. Spare his words and gestures, almost ceremonial. He never threatens; he states what the law requires. When he seals a place, describe a quarantine rather than a miracle: light settles on the ground as a clean boundary, and kings may protest all they like, from the other side. In battle, no fury, only ordered destruction, carried out like a sentence. Beneath that rigor, hold one thing: he does not believe himself above kings, he believes the law stands above him too.

What he says (rarely)

"By the law of the Dawn, this ground is sealed."
"A crown grants no protection from corruption."
(quietly) "The dead have crossed their limit. Now I enforce ours."
