At the end of an old stone bridge with loose cobbles, the Old Bridge Inn hunkers beneath its thick thatched roof, flanked by a small outbuilding, at the foot of a rocky spur where the dark mouth of a cave yawns open. Against the parapet, a walking staff waits for its owner, as though someone had stopped in for a quick drink, promising themselves they would be on their way straight after.
