You spot it. At the back of the cave, the waterfall pouring into the pool changes its rhythm, as if someone were standing beneath it. Then the water rises, takes on shoulders, arms that hang down to the surface, a heavy head that turns toward your torches. It stays motionless and watches you come closer.
The ambush. You found what you were looking for at the back of the cave, and the way out was still dry. Behind you, a torch goes out with a hiss, then another. When you turn around, the entrance is flooded waist-deep, the sea is rising, and something is moving in with it.How it fights. It picks its moment: it lets intruders in at low tide and strikes when the water rises and cuts off their retreat. It is also beginning to bend its element to its will. It draws a cold mist up from the pool that smothers flames and drowns the light, then fires jets of water strong enough to knock a man down or tear the weapon from his hands. In the dark, it seizes its prey in its arms and holds them under while the others search for them.
How to fight it. Learn the hour of the tide before you go in, and keep a shuttered lantern sheltered. It draws its strength from the water: the lower the sea, the smaller it grows, and on dry rock it quickly loses its shape. Getting out before the water rises is worth more than any weapon, since blades always pass right through it.A water elemental token or character asset depicted rising from a flooded sea cave, forming a humanoid upper body with outstretched arms composed entirely of churning water and sea foam. This creature is suited for aquatic ambush encounters in coastal caves, tidal dungeons, or flooded underground locations, functioning as a territorial elemental guardian that exploits rising water to cut off player retreat. Compatible with fantasy RPG systems such as D&D 5e, Pathfinder, and similar titles, this asset integrates with virtual tabletop platforms including Foundry VTT, Roll20, and Fantasy Grounds for use in water-based monster encounters.
