People readily lump them in with the Woz, wrongly. The gelatinous cube is not a creature but made matter, closer to a golem than to a Woz. Where a Woz is born, absorbs and becomes, the cube is made, tuned, and obeys nothing but the simple order poured into it: to watch, to clean, to patrol. It does not grow. It needs no living flesh to endure. It dissolves what the magic infused into it permits, no more, no less. A Woz devours you because it lives; a cube dissolves you because it was told to.
It is not fast. But should ill luck drop you into it, or catch some part of you in it, a powerful suction draws you toward its center, where a very slow digestion begins. You will be dead of suffocation long before you are dissolved. Beyond that, each cube has its own specialty.
The simplest to make. It is used above all to clean filthy, little-frequented places, and it leaves its signature there: wherever it has passed, the stone is left unnaturally clean, gleaming amid the grime.
Its way of fighting lies entirely in its fumes: it does not need to touch you to wear you down. The very air around it eats at the eyes and the breath, so that you are already weakened by the time the suction takes hold. Their virulence depends entirely on the skill of the alchemist who supplied the solvent.
A gelatinous cube token or encounter asset depicting a large, translucent green cube filled with suspended debris including a skull, a broom, bones, and cloth fragments, set within a stone corridor. The creature is a classic dungeon-dwelling construct used to patrol and clean underground passages, dissolving organic matter through caustic fumes and powerful suction rather than speed or brute force. This asset is suited for dungeon-crawl encounters in fantasy RPG systems such as D&D 5e, Pathfinder, or OSR rulesets, and is compatible with virtual tabletop platforms including Roll20, Foundry VTT, and Fantasy Grounds.
