You spot it. You hear it before you see it: a slow, dogged scraping against something hard, where no one is digging. Then a metal back catches the lamplight, marbled like no other. For a moment, it is a find: that color tells of a seam beneath your feet. Then a second one glows behind it. And a third. It was never one beast. It was a colony.The ambush. A faint sizzling pulls you from sleep, very close, like fat in a pan. A belt hangs loose, its buckle half eaten away. By the light of the embers, the ground around the packs is glinting, and it is moving. They are already on your iron.Combat
How it fights. It does not bite to kill, it dissolves. Its thick saliva eats through steel, so an encounter is paid for in gear, not in blood. And you never meet just one: a colony devours an iron-shod convoy the way a puddle swallows a crumb. Whoever stays leaves disarmed.How to fight it. Do not fight, and do not defend your iron: that is what they want. Throw them a worthless scrap of metal and back away while they swarm it. Whoever wants the fortune reads the shell first, marks the color of the seam, then withdraws. An irongnaw is something you follow, not something you fight.
Bilebrood is a large beetle-type creature token set against an ornate stone wall with geometric carvings, depicted mid-climb with dripping acidic saliva and scattered rubble around it. Its iridescent teal and blue-green carapace with intricate patterning makes it visually identifiable as a metallivore monster suited for dungeon, mine, or ancient ruin encounter encounters. This token is compatible with virtual tabletop platforms such as Foundry VTT, Roll20, and Fantasy Grounds, and fits RPG systems including D&D 5e, Pathfinder, and OSR titles. It functions as a swarm-type hazard or environmental threat in underground encounters where gear degradation and resource management mechanics are central.
