Baeloric, the Errant who waits at the crossroads.
Born into a respected family, Baeloric lost a brother and a sister to a bandit raid. He avenged them, but his anger never found the peace he wanted to give them. He was wandering with no direction when a brother of Keleb, at a crossroads, offered him another road: rise as light instead of losing himself in death. He left his name at that crossing. At every crossroads since, he stops long enough for a prayer for two.
Describe him
A traveler like a thousand others, sitting in the shade of a milestone, waiting without impatience. Nothing marks him: no emblem, no weapon that draws the eye, no purse. He rises when you approach, unhurried, and greets you as one greets an equal. His voice is calm, a little rough, the voice of a man who speaks little and lives outdoors. He looks at your horse before he looks at you. The local bandits, for their part, give him a wide berth.
Play him
Let him wait. Never have him leave first. Accept any challenge thrown at him, and ask nothing in return. Bless without reserve whoever chases a dream to the end, and turn your back on whoever gives up, even mid-sentence. When the table hesitates between two roads, have him settle it with "So the road goes" and let a sign choose for the players, a horse's step, a coin, the wind. Beneath the calm, a fear he never puts into words: that his anger is waiting for him too, at the next crossroads.
What he says (rarely)
"It's not mine to choose. It's the road's."
"Carry your dreams ahead of you, never behind."
(to one who gives up) "Keep your road. I have no use for a living man who walks like the dead."
Baeloric is a male human paladin or knight token depicted in full plate armor over a white surcoat emblazoned with a golden compass medallion and laurel embroidery, with a sword hilt visible over his shoulder and a grey travel cloak. He stands before a stone archway, bearing minor facial wounds consistent with recent combat. This character token is suited for RPG encounters involving holy orders, wandering knights, or crossroads NPCs in medieval fantasy settings such as D&D 5e, Pathfinder, or similar systems, and is compatible with virtual tabletops including Roll20, Foundry VTT, and Fantasy Grounds.
